Parents yesterday stormed the office of Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State to protest the killing of students of Federal Government College, Bunu Yadi in Yobe State and others who have been killed in the northern region by the Boko Haram.
The aggrieved parents arrived the governor’s office, Alausa early on Monday morning.
The protesters who dressed in black attire, also chanted different elegy to call on the Federal government, state governors and the security agencies in the country to end the insurgency immediately.
Aside the general placard with the inscription: ‘Boko Haram, stop killing our children’, each of the protesters were armed with placards bearing the names of the students.
Some of the names on their placards were: Peter John, Abbas Ibrahim, Musa Y. Buba, Hamadu Bala, Ali Ayuba and others.
The parents under the aegis of Unity Schools Old Student Association, USOSA, lamented that the state of insecurity in the North, had defeated the essence for the establishment of the unity schools in the country.
They explained that the unity schools which they all attended were established to foster unity irrespective of the language, faith, ethnic and tribe and development in the country.
One of the protesters, Mrs. Ibiyemi Olufowobi, lamented that her child in one Unity schools in Lagos, was already panicking that his school could be attacked by the group.
Another protester, Mr. Bestman Izi, explained that they were all graduates of different Unity Secondary Schools, adding; “The only thing we could do was to embark on this protest, to draw the attention of the President, Goodluck Jonathan and the governors of the 36 states to the plight of the students of these schools.”
Responding, Fashola assured the protesters that he would deliver their message immediately to the president, to expedite action on their demands.
The governor however said that the solution to ending insurgency in the country requires the participation of everyone, adding; “Residents of Lagos should endeavor to alert the police or other security agencies in the state whenever they discover any unusual act.”
