A reliable source told DailyPost that the girl, who has been into a relationship with the man, simply identified as Martin, for almost two years had visited the boyfriend at No 46 Old Market Road on the night of Monday, 10th February with the hope of discussing how to spend the valentine’s day.
The source said Chinonso, who met the absence of her boyfriend, decided to wait and that when he arrived, she queried him to know where he had been.
The source stated that the victim’s boyfriend, who was infuriated attacked her.
Another account, however, stated that Chinonso had first drawn a kitchen knife to attack Martins but was unlucky as he overpowered her, and stabbed her, leading to her death.
DailyPost gathered that the suspect, who is a trader, had attempted to escape from the scene of the murder, but was prevented by neighbours.
Mr. Onyechi Ifediora, a resident of Old Market Road, where the suspect lives, who volunteered to speak to the press told DailyPost that the suspect may not have meant to kill his girlfriend as they both love each other.
He described the late Chinonso as a beautiful and humble girl who never deserved to die that way.
When DailyPost visited the late Chinonso’s residence at Ezenwa Street, Onitsha, no member of the family was around to speak.
In a chat with the DPO, Central Police Station, Onitsha, Mr. Temitope Fasugba, he confirmed the incident, stressing that the matter has been transferred to state CID, Awka.
He declined to comment further, referring the reporter to state PPRO, Emeka Chukwuemeka.
