Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Dimeji Bankole has been discharged and acquitted on corruption charges brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. This was done at A Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday.
The court found there was no evidence linking the former Speaker with the financial malfeasance alleged against him, thus setting him free.
But a visibly stunned Bankole, seated in the witness box, began to shed tears after listening to the judgment.
He mumbled incoherently for some time before his aides moved close, urging him to calm down and leave the box.
Afterwards, a smiling Bankole surrounded by aides and well-wishers turned down requests to for comments.
He said: “Not now.
“I’ll talk later.”
