Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Dr Sam Amadi, on Monday in Abuja assured Nigerians of increased electricity generation from 5,000 to 7,000 megawatts by 2014.
Amadi who gave the assurance during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) said the increase was to meet the yearnings of Nigerians.
``By our projection, we will get up to 10,000 megawatts by first quarter of 2014, but the commission prefers to expect a much lower figure, which is 7,000.
``This is because, with what is on ground and the activities which are going on, we would have done well based on the expectations in the market,’’ he said.
Amadi also said Nigerians would soon have access to a variety of renewable sources of power, other than hydro-power generation.
``We are going to have solar and other forms of renewable power sources, because the county is making investment towards that.
``Currently, there are private firms that are licensed for solar.
``So, we believe that in the next couple of years, we should have a mixture of power source from solar, gas, hydro, wind and all that,’’ he said.
